Already crashed out! Trying to persevere with some live blogging. Good morning from the second morning plenary session of the Open Source for Education: Research & practice conference.
This morning’s sessions clearly articulated the conferences themes: collaboration and community, navigation and iSkills, sustainability and stability, and of course interoperability. Graham Attwell was the first (I’m sure not the last) to look at open source in the context of ‘small pieces loosely joined’ – using the Elgg model of learning landscapes to look at the idea of user determined/designed learning environments.
Currently Colin Tattersall is finishing up – he’s given the conference an overview of the Open University of the Netherlands’s adventures in open standards and open source tools. The new four year project using open standards and open source software for lifelong learning frameworks.
There’s no back channel unfortunately – but you can download conference proceedings. Live blogging so I’ll update & link as I get the chance to.
Stephen Downes is speaking now.
