Really wanted this to read "well it ain't Citizen Kane", but I'm reliably informed (by the packaging and the titles) that it was Citizen Kane.
Almost impossible to say anything about this film that hasn't been said good or bad, so discussed has it been. Probably fair to say it's the most frequently mentioned when people start talking "best movie ever", I'd steered well clear as I figured nothing could live up to that billing.
I still think it's an impossible ask, naming "best film ever", but it says as much as anything that I could be mesmerized by this movie for the best part of 2 hours. I would honestly say it easily stands up with any other motion picture, and despite being over 60 years old is still easy and entertaining to watch with contemporary eyes.
Thoroughly recommended without reservation, holds together beautifully in every department (and yes I include acting which avoids some of the excesses of other films of this era), but particularly in the realm of cinematography. Great.
