It’s a kid’s movie from the guy who brought us ‘Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo’.
I’m pretty tempted to leave it there. Cashing in on the popularity of the X-men franchise (and not much else, my weekly grocery shop probably comes to more than this films budget) Mike Mitchell fails to deliver on a great idea – teens with superpowers. This film needed more cash, better effects, and a better script. The knowing one-liners about the unfairness of high school were particularly sad. Layla Williams, the hippy rip off of Poison Ivy is ok, as is Steven Strait who plays bad-boy and one trick pony Warren Peace. Michael Angarano, who plays the central character, Will Stronghold, is entirely charmless. And Kurt Russell, who plays super dad Steve ‘The Commander’ Stronghold, must be really hard up.
If you enjoyed the Mutant Ninja Turtles movies you won’t be disappointed. Apart from there not being any Mutant Ninja Turtles I guess.
I thought this one had enough potential for a rental, but sounds like not .. thanks for the warning!

Keith, at some point in the next five years you’ll either be too drunk or too lazy to get off the couch and this will be on teevee – there’s no rush.
