Watched this when we got back, with Patrick who picked it up while we were in Paris. It was in Thai with French subtitles, so Patrick had to translate the more obscure speech. The script and the story are pretty straight forward though - all the better to support the amazing Thai-boxing and fight scenes.
Some of the characters are good. The old woman in the village is pretty memorable in her reaction to the villages loss of their sacred statue (the Ong-bak of the title).
Phanom Yeerum/Tony Jaa is very good looking, and amazing as Boonting, righteously kicking bad guy ass and performing some great (wireless) stunts. You get to see a lot of the really good stunts in rewind selector mode from two or three different angles. & there is a bad wig alert so you know when someone is going to get slammed in the head.
Pumwaree Yodkaol who plays Muaylek is the squeakiest heroin of modern times.
The last big fight scene is just incredible. See if you can spot where the bad guy keeps his handy syringe stash.
