Elgg/Moodle integration here at last!
Just in case any of you out there missed the announcement at the beginning of the month: Along with the brand-spanking shiny new 6.0 release, Ben Werdmuller @ Elgg News wrote:
"Catalyst have released their Elgg integration block for Moodle: click here to check it out. Additionally, Penny Leach has written some instructions for installation, which are available on Eduforge. Thanks to all involved for all their hard work!"
Cool! Check out the Elgg site if you don't have a clue why this is such a great thing (particularly for UK institutions currently considering their e-portfolio options) .
I'll be posting an overview of Elgg over at AoC NILTA next week - so look out for it!
I just read where Moodle1.6 is not compatable with elgg and after watching the videocast from this years moodlemoot I heard moodle's lead developer dismiss elgg integration as not being important. It seems parternerships with Microsoft and Intel which were discussed in this same videocast are becoming more important to moodle. It seems that if elgg integration with moodle is to continue it will need to be driven outisde the official moodle organisation.

https://eduforge.org/wiki/wiki/nzvle/?pagename=MoodleElggHOWTO>Penny Leach is one of the lead Moodle developers, so that would be a bit suprising.
There are some problems with http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=48035&parent=249116>proxy servers, but that is hardly a sign that Elgg-Moodle is not important.
That Microsoft paid for the Oracle and SQL Server support is a good thing, by using an external XML DB Schema it also makes Moodle easier to use with other open source databases besides MySQL and Postgres.
