Top Gig Blogged 2009

Quality, not quantity - that would be the story of 2009's giggery. Either that, or there was simply precious little happening. Six only recorded but five of them were great - the least said about Judas Priest, the better. Finally seeing PJ Harvey was a personal highlight but the award must got to Kong and Chickenhawk for ripping up a room above a shop in Nottingham and (hopefully) showing where music should be heading in 2010.

Top Gig Blogged 2008

Another tough choice this year. Shall I shit myself, or puke? But enough of my New Year's stomach upset, onto my gig of the year. And what a surfeit of high-volume peaches it turned out to be; beginning with Bilge Pump and Lords sweating the fuck out of a rickety Nottingham hostelry and Merzbow blowing De Montfort Uni's electrics several times, then staggering through the mighty Melt-Banana to crash into Slayer showing some Kiss / Metallica tribute how it should be done.

But it is to the less ear-shredding side the award goes; a joint award, in fact, since both acts were equally staggering. In the perfect venue of London's St. Giles-in-the-Fields church, Stars of the Lid and Lichens were undisputed kings of the musical trip.
