MySpace: Better than Emo

Screenshot035

Only just got round to watching this really funny Daily Show investigation of social networking (and in particular, MySpace) - contains the best diagram I've seen since Brass Eye went out of business. Thanks Alec!

Also, I think I caught caught the amazing Danah Boyd being interviewed on BBC World Service at some point early this morning, about her MySpace research that was presented at AAAS on the 19th. The slot was called something like "let your kids spend more time online - it's good for them!" and featured Danah's research and another woman's research into an international kid's community. Can anyone help me out with more information? It sounded great but it was about 3am.

News from Edublog Meetup3

A few exciting developments have came out of the London meetup that took place at the beginning of this month. Here's the short, check your diaries version so you know what's coming.

UK & Ireland Edublog Con 1

Yes - it is going to happen. It will be a day conference and is scheduled for June 2nd, taking place at an people and internet friendly venue in London (we promise the next one will be further north). We are planning on a working event for those of you familiar with web 2.0 technologies - & on keeping it free, but you need to come prepared to contribute your ideas and experiences. Librarians, edtechs, teachers, academics, researchers, policy makers, educational leaders, technicians and developers and all welcome. Full details soon.

The International Student Edublog Awards - November 2006

This year we will be running the inaugural international Student Edublog Awards, recognising the great work being done by 7 to 18 year olds. The awards will take place a month before the old folks Edublog Awards.I'm sure this announcement will stir up a lot of enthusiasm - we are massively excited. We're also currently actively seeking sponsorship since most kids we know wouldn't be too impressed with a weblog badge, even ones as nice as our nominees and winners got this year.

The Third International Edublog Awards - December 2006

This year will see the introduction of a new category - for undergraduate student edubloggers.

Many countries celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th. This year, we'd like to encourage the whole edublogging community to celebrate the women edubloggers in their lives - friends, mothers, sisters, daughters, online colleagues and co-workers. Please join in the party on this special day with at least one post about women who edublog. It might be a profile, interview, overview of their blog - or just a round up link-fest of all your favourite women edubloggers. So if you have benefited from the contribution of women who blog in, around or about education (and let's face it - who hasn't?), please take part in the women edubloggers blog extravaganza!

Please include the phrase "International Edublogging Women's Day 2006" in your post.
