Wild Time

Developed this forgotten 120 film a couple of days ago, and for the first time in ages am actually pleased with some of the results :). The first 5 shots are hit and miss, from the Wild Flag gig I attended (with MrMartinNaylor and Dr Dave at the Rescue Rooms, Nottingham) almost exactly a year ago (it was sometime in Feb 2012). They were great btw.

Finished the film off with some snowy shots of home city Leicester not far from home (Rally Park, canal and surrounds) and also some shots of Leicester landmarks (inc the clocktower - the most famous Leicester landmark). Here they are anyway, click to enlarge them and see in full glory.

Christmas crapper

We always go for a walk in Bradgate Park on Christmas Day, and this year was no exception. Took the Holga for a spin. Should have cleaned the lens first as Linda Evans style fuzziness resulted (should be fixed now) plus my focussing was rusty as Walton's dog. I am quite disillusioned with it all truth be told.

2 scans of some of the pictures as such a huge contrast between foreground and sky, but the sky was quite dramatic, and you can't have both with crap cameras as I'd do well to remember. I also need a squeegy to get that residue off - it's starting to tits me off now. Here goes then, click to embiggen, let me know your thoughts:

Closer

I think this was my first (maybe second?) actual go with the close up lens but the film got shoved to the bottom of my developing pile. Used distance gauges so the focus is (pretty much) there this time, unusually for this blog. And also unusually I like this roll. S'good. Obviously, like life, it benefits from the presence of Godzilla (Gojira) (read James Stokoe's Godzilla: The Half Century War you can buy it here). Nice.

Went to see Om in September in a shed in Brum. It was a good gig (if slightly short tbh), but great to meet up with Jules and Ian. Anyway took photos, but flash was out of action, and also dropped camera getting out of the car when I got home so much of the film was light fogged. This has helped some pretty gash pictures look at least mildly interesting. Or so I say... First 2 are the doom tubas of ORE. Some passable pics of Al maybe???

Solar flow

Pinhole beercan solarograph test. Unfortunately fell off the downpipe I'd put it on today so developed 2 months early. Here's the negative version:

Prefer the second myself but wonderful how this simple idea works with no chems, just a lot of time and better cable ties :). It was in situ from 3rd October to today.

Audrey

I'm a big fan of Sherilyn Fenn in the role of Audrey Horne in Twin Peaks so I shot off a roll of film of her. She's amazing...

...and it's not weird. No.

So there you go. I'm really pleased with them (despite some chemical residue marks, not anything weird, honest). She's spellbinding.

Double Sniv

An exercise in double exposing. Sniv pics taken around late Feb/early March, re-exposed (when I got round to it) in July on a gloomy day in Mumbles. Maybe could've done with a stronger lit day for second exp because the effect is diminished, although effective on some pictures. These need to be viewed bigger, so make sure you click on each one to see the full size.

Disappointed, won't have a chance to photyograph the cursed bear again and should have done something more intersting with him so these would look better when the second exp didn't work. Bleh!

It's all a blur

OK so second film with the close up lenses, and realised as soon as I'd taken the shots that I'd focussed at the wrong distance (god knows how). Figured the pictures would be useless, and some would say they are, but I kinda like them. All pics of Sniv our cursed bear visitor last winter/spring. Address all "you need a new camera duck" comments to Mr Martin Naylor c/o Derby Telegraph :)

A newie - testing my new close-up lenses

A welcome back to the blog. Hiatus due to not having any chems to develop films. Have some more now and this is the first of quite a batch I have to get through so keep checking back for more filmy goodness.

So I bought myself (for my birthday almost a year ago) some close-up/macro lenses. Tested them (in Nov '11) with this fillum in and around the garden. Mixed results, as they're unforgiving focus wise, and this means I think there'll be some hopeless films to come (I'm not very thorough). Anyway, some goodies here, some horrors, click to see larger.

And not just out of focus, but underlit photo of Fuzz to finish off.

So there it is. An illustration of the difficulties of non-through-lens focussing. Will definitely use some sort of distance guide when using these lenses in future, but this does mean there'll be a few crap shots (and maybe whole films) to come. If only I could've developed it sooner, ah well. Arsehats!

(An) Apple (a) Day

Went to the Apple Day Festival at Mary Arden's Farm in Warwickshire (one of the "Shakespeare's houses"), armed with my new colour gels and an x-pro film. Error number one was using such a slow film with the gels (which block available light in some spectra, depending on colour of gel), despite it being a glorious day. Second error (this one not foreseeable) was that the chems I use for developing are now showing their age (OK they've pretty much died), so I ended up with very underexposed images. That said I am very pleased with 10 of the 12 shots, the colour shifts are weird and the pictures (partly due to subject, partly due to the underexposure allied to the cross-processing) look enigmatic. And there was me thinking I'd wasted a film I'd actually paid for (which is a rarity). Click pictures for biggerness.
