Got 2 free 120 B&W films courtesy of Paul Godwin (cheers Paul). First 120 film I've ever worked with (it is fiddly to get onto the Patterson spool for developing but otherwise not as scary as I thought [this may become a theme]). Also first home developing I've done since 1985ish so a bit of a step into the unknown but help from websites like Flickr and Squarefrography got us started reasonably quickly. Like I've said before will post all the pics here, then select some (few) ones to go onto Flickr (will probably re-scan them at higher res for that). Enjoy and comment if you like. Annotations below each one, click them if you need larger:
OK first one, got on the floor and took a photo through our maple at the front of the house. Copied from countless Holga photos like this, nice variable focusing and vignetting as is the norm with plastic lenses, also the leaves silhouette nicely
Rhi took this double exposure of some standing stones and me superimposed, works reasonably well, I think.
Old Piggott scrap merchant sign on the canal (and star of one of the first Gary Lineker Walker's crisps ads [at 0:34]). Looks old. One of the last still industrialised bits along our stretch of canal.
Failed long exposure of pigeons taking off canal bridge, fast film and light (cloudy but bright) day don't mix. It's a voyage of discovery this...
Arch under drainage channel - Jewry Wall museum. Mysterious looking (Rhi took this I think).
Jewry Wall itself. Second largest piece of surviving civil Roman building in existence in Britain! (St Nicholas' Church in background peering over)
Rhi definitely took this, double exp of Vaughn College, not the way I would have done it, but this works better than mine would've (I'd have had the buildings top and bottom with sky between, but that would've overexposed the middle in retrospect so good choice girl)
Very long exposure (3 or 4 seconds) of the wall. Not a success, not sure what I wanted to see, but it does look suitably odd (probably due to having to dicker with the scanner to get anything out of the neg)
Catkins on our garden willow. Used blue flash as light was subdued and it works a treat
This guy's been tied to our washing line pole since we moved in (10 years ago nearly). Again used a flash...maybe red or white??
Rhi playing patience...I like this one...unposed
Double exp of Rhi in the dark in the garden (scaredy is with red flash, shouty with yellow), very pleased with this, exactly what I wanted.
So that's the end of film one. Managed to get something from every shot (which is something with the Holga I'm led to believe) and learned a couple of things about how the bleddy thing does and doesn't work.
Let me know what you think. In a week or so I'll put my favourite(s) up on Flickr at higher res.
