El Laberinto del fauno (aka Pan's Labyrinth) (2006) Guillermo del Toro
The tagline is "Innocence Has A Power Evil Cannot Imagine", to which I'd add: However, Evil Does Have A Gun And A Pair Of Pliers.
Lisa was exceptionally cruel about this movie, saying it was Labyrinth, but without the Fraggles. Also, in place of a wiggy David Bowie, it has the Spanish Civil War. I'm not a huge del Toro fan but I was looking forward to this movie following the general hubbub. I saw it at the Pheonix with Matt Stone. The violence is really effective (& certainly not for children), but the open interpretation ending isn't that open (your choices are it was all a dream, or it wasn't) and a bit too fey for my tastes. It's a beautiful looking, adult version of Narnia. With pliers.

I wasn't being cruel - I merely thought the movie would benefit from some catchy tunes and a bit of faded pop star crotch.
